What are the GST rates now?
Since 22 September 2025 the main rates are 5%, 18% and 40%, with 0% for exempt items and special rates of 3% for gold and jewellery, 0.25% for rough diamonds and 1.5% for cut diamonds. The 28% rate and compensation cess ended on 1 February 2026.
How do I calculate GST backwards from an inclusive price?
Base price = inclusive price × 100 ÷ (100 + GST rate). GST = inclusive price − base price. For ₹1,180 at 18%, the base is ₹1,000 and GST is ₹180.
When is it CGST + SGST and when is it IGST?
A sale within the same state carries CGST and SGST, each half the rate. A sale to another state, or an import, carries IGST at the full rate.
